The Truth Behind Danielle Smith's Trans Ban

It's not just about winning elections, but the culture war.
A majority of Canadians are against using surgery and hormones to treat gender dysphoria in kids. That's been clear for years, but there hasn't been a real national debate or dialogue on the issue. Instead, doctors and politicians have been quietly supporting these treatments on the sidelines, while only the fringes on social media have engaged in real debates. Despite New Brunswick and Saskatchewan passing bills to support parental rights, it never ignited a real national debate. That's why Danielle Smith took it upon herself to change that.
It is true that most gender treatments, like surgery, aren't legal in Canada for anyone under the age of 18 and 16. Smith knew that, but that's not what her announcement was really about. The UCP's legislation isn't as much about politics as it is about culture. The legacy media in Canada has avoided real debates on children receiving questionable treatments for gender dysphoria, even despite backlash on platforms like X. The mainstream media's consensus was that anyone who rails against “gender affirming care” is a right-wing lunatic. Now that Smith has pushed the red button and ignited a firestorm with her “most extreme” policy yet, ordinary Canadians are chiming in and a more clear national consensus is emerging.
Canadians don't support pumping children full of hormones and then cutting off their genitals as a treatment for gender dysphoria. At the very least, those who do support these treatments think that parental consent should be a requirement. A new poll from Leger confirmed this sentiment, showing that 45% of Canadians support a full ban, while another 30% support parental consent. That means that 75% of Canadians are against doctors, teachers and therapists side-stepping parents on issues of gender.
Danielle Smith's measured and highly sympathetic video announcement did exactly what it was supposed to.
Despite Smith announcing a series of measures to protect and help trans youth, she was viciously attacked by the opposition and by radical, purple-haired lunatics. Janis Irwin sobbed in front of a crowd of protesters in Edmonton while Rachel Notley consoled her. Naheed Nenshi ranted and raved like an unhinged lunatic to a crowd in Calgary, while the media tried whipping up hysteria against Danielle Smith's harmful and backwards attack on everyone who is trans. It was quite the spectacle.
Because of Danielle Smith, everyone exposed their true colours in public for all to see. Lines were drawn and political leaders jumped on the pro-trans bandwagon to denounce Smith and to support the fallacy of gender affirming care. They exposed themselves as lunatics by denouncing what most Canadians view as a sympathetic, yet reasonable policy announcement. That was exactly what Danielle Smith wanted.
Through this national debate, Canadians got to see where their leaders stand.
Like frothing dogs, journalists immediately turned to Pierre Poilievre. They wanted to use the issue against him, wrongly believing the public was on their side and in support of maiming and mutilating children behind their parent's backs. They pressed him until he finally admitted to supporting Danielle Smith's new policy. From there, they ran headlines about it, assuming it would hurt him and the Conservative Party.
Weeks later, the first national poll on the issue from PostMedia and Leger dropped. The journalists got it wrong. They got it so, so wrong.
The poll results weren't a surprise. Other polls had been done on a provincial level in New Brunswick and Saskatchewan with similar results, yet the lunatics and their friends in media insisted they were on the right side of public opinion. They insisted that Poilievre and Smith were the bad guys, while Justin Trudeau and Rachel Notley were the good guys. They were sure they could bury conservatives under Danielle Smith's “hateful” new policies. The rest were sure that—if they persisted—they could change public opinion. They were all wrong.
The poll found that only 11% of Canadians support gender affirming care for children without parental consent. If anyone in media and inside the Liberal Party is looking to change public opinion in favour of lopping off genitals and pumping kids full of hormones, they have a steep mountain to climb.
Most immigrants from India, Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa also oppose what these left-wing lunatics are selling. Through her brilliant move to pry open the debate on the national stage, Smith has affirmed the conservatism of most immigrants living in Canada. Many of them have now been exposed to the Liberal Party's ideology on gender, as well as the extreme pandering to left-wing mobs by the NDP. Both parties will now bleed support from the very immigrants they have been trying to court.
National polls have only grown stronger for Poilievre and the Conservative Party since Smith's announcement—even in Quebec, where Conservatives have now inched ahead of Liberals in the latest Abacus polls. Even on Canada's left coast, Conservatives are ahead by big margins.
The tides are most certainly turning in Canada. Among the issues of inflation, drug abuse and housing costs, parental rights have become a hot button issue. Not a single, normal Canadian-born person or immigrant supports drastic measures like surgery and hormones for children with gender dysphoria. More importantly, they don't support teachers, doctors and therapists going behind parents' backs to fulfill their deranged ideological desires.
