No, We Won't Leave

We are not going anywhere, so deal with it.
It would be so easy for them if we packed our things and left. I'm talking about the pro-Canadian, hyper patriotic dimwits with their elbows up. Those clowns. The ones who also happen to have Ukrainian and Pride flags in their social media bios. The ones who tell us that if we don't like Canada, we should leave, but that we can't take Alberta with us. You know them. They want us to pack up and leave Canada to make their lives easier—to make their opinions and views the only ones left. They want supremacy, but we are not going to give it to them.
If we go, we are taking Alberta and Saskatchewan with us. Maybe we'll take interior British Columbia as well. No, we are not going to pack our things and move to Trump's America. Not because we don't want to, but because fuck them and their elbows. We aren't here to make their lives easier.
A quick history lesson would teach these dimwits that separation and secession are normal, frequent, and necessary. Being stuck in a normalcy bias is a disadvantage. Not being able to see the natural ebbs and flows of human civilization is a serious handicap, one that we don't have. The Romans didn't see it either, until it was too late. They tried to stop it, but cost thousands of lives by starting needless, unwinnable wars. In the end, the Germanic, Frankish, and Italic tribes got their way. It wasn't easy or fast, but it happened through time.
Canada is a failed state. They don't see it yet, but they will when it's too late.
So, why won't we just leave? Because we shouldn't have to. We built our homes here, we were born here, our families and livelihoods are rooted in this land. You can call us indigenous if you'd like. For the same reasons the older indigenous Canadians of Asian descent don't have to leave, we are bound by the land and our history. Canada and its flag are nothing more than traditions and ideas that have failed us.
At the end of every day, we all come home to a place we understand and know. Whether it is a house filled with family and friends, or no one at all, it is a place we built and recognize. We have neighbours, co-workers, friends, and associates that share the same customs, many of the same ideals, and speak the same languages. We have histories here. Just because bureaucrats representing a red maple leaf in Ottawa say so, does not make us their chattel.
We don't have to refer to ourselves by any preordained label or idea. We don't have to be Canadians, but we don't have to be Albertans or Westerners either. We just have to mutually agree that the rules, customs, and ideals being forced upon us by people who live 1000 kilometres away don't work. We have to understand that it's not wrong to oppose those ideals, or to consider leaving a bad marriage.
If the hyper patriots want to be authoritarians about all of this, we're happy to play ball.
If we don't own the land we have broken our backs to keep, they don't either. In fact, Canadian law permits referendums and secessionism. The Clarity Act was written with all of this in mind, knowing that such movements are inevitable. Although the bureaucrats left a “clear majority” undefined for their own authoritarian purposes, separatism is neither illegal nor anything to be ashamed about.
As the authoritarians continue to demand penance and more taxes for our labour, while simultaneously demanding more control over our resources and wealth, that inevitable “clear majority” will get closer. If we don't succeed the first time, there will be a second time—and a third time. Each time, that clear majority will grow stronger and more obvious. Eventually, the bureaucrats in Ottawa won't be able to reject it. However, it won't stop them from trying.
The further they push, the stronger the resistance will become.
Again, lessons in history can go a long way. It never ends well for those who try to stop the inevitable flow of human civilization. The whole purpose of democracy is peace. For civilized people with other options, referendums and peaceful exits are the most reasonable solutions. If it ever threatens to extend beyond these civilized solutions, it will be because the authoritarians decided to make it so. History has shown us this repeatedly.
Authoritarianism is evil and it's sad to see so many Canadians showing their true colours. Rather than react in any kind of rational or reasonable way, they are choosing to get angry and make threats. Even when it comes to tariffs and Donald Trump, Canadians have chosen irrational anger and self-harm over reason. Instead of tackling border issues and abolishing our country's own foreign taxes and tariffs, many Canadians have settled on retaliation at their own expense.
This makes it less shocking to see patriotic Canadians defaulting to an authoritarian mindset when it comes to Alberta's latest push for autonomy and respect.
As all of this unfolds, we are getting a true glimpse of how deeply radicalized Canadians are. Their hatred and fear of Donald Trump has pushed them into a state of collective delirium. All bets are off and negotiation is not an option. They've been led to believe that Orange Hitler is a terrorist and that fighting back with sticks and stones is the only reasonable alternative. Like a flailing deer caught in a razor wire fence, they are kicking and fighting back against anyone offering a calm, reasonable escape.
If Canadians truly cared about unity, they would show some empathy toward Alberta, Saskatchewan, and anyone in the West who feels exploited. If they wanted to strengthen their economy and resolve most of their economic hardships, they would be open to talking with Trump and Albertans. They would be open to mutually beneficial solutions, instead of their current approach—which involves taking a shit on everything that isn't mindlessly patriotic and self-destructive.
If their idiotic and authoritarian opinions continue, we will make it even more inevitable. We won't pack our bags, we'll make it more clear that we are taking our land with us. We'll become louder, more unapologetic, and less tolerant. If they want to play the “then leave” game, we'll play it harder. If any Ontario-born Albertans want to oppose separation, they can pack up and leave. The same is true for those who left their destroyed provinces for Alberta's greener grass. They can go back home, or to any of the nine other provinces.
Unless Mark Carney changes course completely and begins to respect the West's economic ambitions, things are only going to get worse. The bottom line is simple. We aren't going anywhere, we're not shutting up, and we're ready to play all the same games as our opponents.
Fire versus fire.
